Mount Saint Mary’s University has received a generous grant from The Seaver Institute to launch a comprehensive evaluation of the University’s new (M)POWER program, a signature experience designed to transform student success and long-term career readiness.
The multi-year study will evaluate the full impact of (M)POWER, a holistic initiative that guides students from their first year through graduation with structured pathways that include Summer Pathways, the First-Year Experience, dedicated advisory teams, academic and career planning, industry-recognized credentials, and multi-campus engagement opportunities. The research will provide critical insight into how intentional, wraparound support influences graduation rates, employment outcomes and career advancement.
“(M)POWER represents one of our most ambitious commitments to transform student outcomes through a coordinated and career-centered approach,” said Mount Saint Mary’s President Ann McElaney-Johnson, PhD. “The Seaver Institute’s support allows us to measure the transformative elements of this model and share learnings that can strengthen higher education far beyond our campus.”
The study will be led by Thomas Voden, PhD, of WRD Consulting Group, a nationally recognized expert in program evaluation for colleges and universities. Mount Saint Mary’s will use this research to inform broader statewide efforts to improve equity, completion and workforce readiness.
Founded in 1955 by Frank R. Seaver, The Seaver Institute provides seed funding for innovative organizations and projects that foster interdisciplinary creativity and lay the groundwork for transformative research.
“Our Board was deeply impressed by the (M)POWER program’s thoughtful emphasis on helping students identify, organize, and balance their priorities,” said Nathan Dean, president of The Seaver Institute. “We believe this initiative has the power to equip Mount Saint Mary’s students with the academic, personal, and professional tools they need to thrive—both on campus and long after graduation.”
Findings from the study will guide future enhancements to (M)POWER and help Mount Saint Mary’s champion new strategies that elevate student success post-graduation.
